Schneider Electric has appointed a new VP for their Southern Africa Buildings division. James Calmeyer, former chief executive officer of Crabtree, joined the company on the 1 August 2017.
Calmeyer holds a master's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Pretoria. He has joined Schneider Electric as the vice president of Buildings for Southern Africa, which incorporates Partner Projects, Retail and EcoBuildings businesses. Prior to joining the company, he was the chief executive officer of Crabtree, a subsidiary of the JSE-listed Altron group of companies, and before that he was the managing director of Strike Technologies and the director of the Centre for New Electricity Studies at the University of Pretoria.
Calmeyer has a wealth of experience in heading up business development divisions, where he has played this role at Powertech System Integrator, Strike Technologies and Crabtree. He has also spearheaded multiple short, medium and long-term strategies focused on increasing organisations' bottom lines. With over 21 years' experience in the industry, he has also been integral in BEE development within the various roles that he held, and his technology background is testament to his knowledge and capabilities in this sector. Calmeyer is also a registered professional engineer with the Engineering Council of South Africa and a member of the South African Institute of Electrical Engineers.
As the new VP, Calmeyer's role is primarily focused on growing the Southern African business, ensuring a solid long-term strategy, as well as providing operational, management and financial controls. 'I am delighted to be part of this global enterprise and excited to build on the current business of this division in Southern Africa,' Calmeyer enthuses.
